Gear in Ether isn't static — four independent upgrade systems stack on every weapon and piece of armor. A maxed item is high-+N, fully socketed, well-rolled, and part of an active set.
Reinforce gear step by step to raise attack, magic, and defense — the headline upgrade, and the riskiest.
Slot gems into an item's sockets to bolt on extra options — and sometimes a buff.
Every item is born with rolled bonus lines — re-roll them for the set you want.
Wear several pieces of a matching set for escalating, automatic buffs.
Clamped between 0.1% and 100% — a +1 is all but guaranteed, while a high enchant is never certain and never impossible. Protection items can fully cancel the penalty on a failed attempt.
On a failed attempt, the penalty escalates with your current +level against the item's three risk thresholds:
Safe
Below Risk 1 — nothing lost
Downgrade −1
Drops one enchant level
Reset to +0
Enchant falls back to zero
Destroyed
The item is gone for good
Thresholds are per item — a +6 can be perfectly safe on one piece and destruction-risk on another. Always check before pushing a valuable one, and use full protection past the danger zone.
From +1, gear gains an aura that escalates through five tiers as the +level climbs — a heavily-enchanted weapon is visibly special (the exact color depends on the item).
