The world of Hestia, its Norse-rooted pantheon, and the ether-and-soul cosmology that powers everything you do — an ether world, and a soul-bringer sent to mend it.
A faithful retelling reconstructed from Ether Online’s in-game quest text — evocative, not official canon.
The mortal world
Forests, ruins, deserts, and jungles — corrupted from within and invaded from without. The land you fight to save.
World of the gods
Set within Yggdrasil, the world tree — damaged and all but lost after an ancient war. Home of Odin, Freyja, and the rest.
Domain of Hel
The death-goddess Hel’s realm, pressing against Hestia. Her curse mutates living creatures into monsters and turns fertile land to wasteland.
Ether is the living energy that flows through the world, its creatures, and their souls. It can be absorbed — and corrupted. When ether is poisoned, water dries up, forests twist into illusions, and gentle creatures mutate into monsters. Its balance is the world’s health.
The seven ethers
Kill a corrupted creature and its contaminated soul slips free. The hero’s gift is to cleanse souls back to purity — the literal fiction behind the soul-drop economy.
Raising pioh is, in lore, restoring divine life to the world — one creature at a time.
Odin
PatronChief god of war, wisdom, and fate. The hero is his chosen warrior — even “a piece of Odin” — his might diminished since the war.
Freyja
SummonerGoddess of light and life. She pulled the hero back from death and sealed away “noble power” for them to recover.
Tellus / Ymir
SealedGoddess of the Earth, asleep in ancient ruins with her body fragmented. Awakening her is a central early goal.
Baldr
GodA god whose followers — adventurers who walk Hestia — carry his name. Lightly sketched in the surviving text.
Paul Bola
Elemental giantAn elemental giant named the “goddess of water” in Hestia — one of the powers tied to the seven ethers.
Hel
AntagonistThe death-goddess of corruption and ruler of Darkhold. She collects greedy souls to start another war — the prime evil.
An ancient war (the Asgard War) damaged Asgard and lost the world of the gods. The elemental gods declared neutrality and withdrew — now sealed or asleep across Hestia.
Hel’s curse spreads, contaminating souls and ether — mutant pioh, twisted monsters, drained rivers, and villages turned to wasteland.
A foreign invasion — the Helian — has occupied Venusia, serving the shadowy mastermind Exorhynn. Hestia faces a two-front crisis.
The hero’s counter — cleanse souls, awaken the sealed gods, recover Odin’s lost might, and break Hel’s grip region by region, toward the dragons.
You begin as an amnesiac warrior trained in Asgard — a warrior of Odin, even “a piece of Odin.” You nearly died, and Freyja’s Valkyries carried you back to be Hestia’s last hope. You wake with no memory as the villager Marietta begs you to save Retta and Hestia. Called a contractor, you recover the divine power Freyja hid for you — and the dragon Liberius grants you the Eternal Blade so you can gather the power of chaos and change the future rather than accept the world’s ruin.
A note on the names: two central artifacts echo the hero’s story — the Eternal Blade is the hero’s sword, and Soulbringer is the hero’s calling (and the 2nd-job name of the Soul Summoner class) — “one who brings souls back,” Odin’s chosen soul-purifier.
Marietta
Tutorial guideThe first NPC and Chapter 1’s emotional anchor — the Retta elder’s daughter who begs you to save Retta and Hestia.
Heiwika
Sentima SocietyA liaison of the Sentima Society who guides “contractors” — a recurring main-quest giver across the chapters.
Pascal / Paska
ResearcherInvestigates why the monsters keep mutating; the answer is always Hel’s deepening curse. Namesake of Paska’s Camp.
Murad
Job advancementA scholar-merchant who runs your 2nd-job quest line — “all the information comes with a price.”
Your first Pioh
CompanionYour awakened Divine-Beast partner — “we are partners and friends of all the contractors.”

The geography tells the story of the spreading blight — each region darker and more corrupted than the last, hub towns (Retta, Herbat, Paska’s Camp, and Asgard) anchoring the way.
Chapter 1
You wake amnesiac in Retta as mutant pioh — once-gentle Divine Beasts twisted by corrupted ether — menace the village. You cleanse souls, awaken your first pioh, re-stabilize the ether wheels, and wake the earth goddess Tellus. The dragon Liberius grants you the Eternal Blade to “change the future.”
Chapter 2
The Menas River is drained to the bed by a colossal mutant Pioh that devoured its water-ether. The fishing village Herbat is cursed into desert, and the town of Venusia is occupied by the Helian — a military force tied to the shadowy Exorhynn. The world is being conquered, inside and out.
Chapter 3
The escalation points to a final reckoning — confronting the Helian and Exorhynn and the draconic threats that close the map: the Black Dragon’s resting place and Teranox’s nest, with Hestia’s ether and the gate to Asgard on the line.
Divine Beasts turned monstrous by the blight — the river-devouring one is Chapter 2’s marquee threat.
A multi-phase boss in its resting place near the end of the map; it summons reinforcements at HP thresholds.
The deepest boss, in Teranox’s Nest, capping the Season 1 region progression.
Plus regional bosses along the way — Larknae, Proking, and the water-beast Aquareis. The monsters are the lore: most field enemies are creatures corrupted by Hel’s ether-blight.
Corruption of the life-force — cleanse and restore
A fallen, recoverable order — reclaim, don’t conquer
Fate vs. free will — the power to change the future
Partnership & life — bring the world back, don’t just slay
