Ether Online: Beginner's Guide — Getting Your First Pioh & Unlocking Asgard

Ether Online is a free-to-play, anime-style fantasy MMORPG (playetheronline.com) built around classic quest-hub progression, a companion/pet system called Pioh, and a higher-tier realm called Asgard. This guide walks new players through the very first stretch of the game: recovering your starter Pioh, unlocking your Pioh and Soul Card slots, and making the jump into Asgard.

1. Starting Out: Meet the Local NPCs

You begin in a green, forested starting village. Early quests are handed out by two friendly NPCs:

• Ramon

• Marrieta, the local Potion Merchant

Talk to both of them and clear out their available quests one by one. Keep talking to Marrietta until she offers a special quest called "Recovery of Pioh." This is the quest that introduces the game's companion system.

2. The "Recovery of Pioh" Quest

Once "Recovery of Pioh" is active, the objective is:

Go to the Frozen Farm and kill the Red-Tongue Thunder Groll.

Head to the Frozen Farm map and clear the Groll-type enemies there. As you fight, you'll pick up loot drops (gear pieces, herbs, potions, gold) along the way — normal MMO trash/quest loot. Defeating the target enemy(s) completes this stage and opens a return path (a "Door of Return") back to town.

Once you're done, the quest log updates and tells you to go to Kitty in Retta to continue the storyline.

3. Kitty the Soul Cleanser (Retta)

Back in town (Retta), find the NPC Kitty, who is a Soul Cleanser. Kitty offers a small hub of quests, including:

• Recovery of Pioh (continuation)

• Investigating the Daily Dungeon

• Time to Challenge

• Shadow of Darkhold

Continue her "Recovery of Pioh" dialogue. Completing it unlocks your Soul Card Slot and your Pioh Slot — the two core equipment systems tied to companions and card-based buffs.

Kitty will also offer a follow-up quest called "Asgard Gate." Accepting and completing this is what unlocks travel to Asgard.

4. Traveling to Asgard

To actually make the trip, find the Spatial Transporter NPC. Speaking to them gives the option:

"Would you like to travel to Asgard?"

Confirm, and you'll be warped to Asgard's entrance area, where you're greeted by Heimdall, guardian of the gate. He remarks on your survival and progress, and the game awards a Silver Achievement: "Discovery! Asgard, City of the Gods!"

Heimdall's dialogue touches on the setting's lore — Odin's power, and the fact that his full strength can't be wielded properly in the "lower world."

5. Murad's Request (Sword Fragment Collection)

Inside Asgard, look for Murad, listed as Baldr's Concierge. Talking to him opens the quest "Murad's Request."

• Objective: Collect 3 Sword Fragments.

• Fragments drop from enemies in nearby zones such as the Abandoned Farm and Mysterious Forest (River Stream / Hedgehog Den area).

• These early Asgard mobs die fast once you're higher level, so this collection step goes quickly.

Return to Murad once you have all 3 fragments to turn in the quest and claim your reward. His dialogue drops more lore: a rumor that when Hella's power meets Odin's power, Odin's power "senses the crisis" and awakens, becoming whole.

6. Ex Quest: "Origin of Power" — Slay the Conpin King

This follow-up quest sends you to the Hedgehog Den:

"Go to Hedgehog Den and Slay Conpin King."

Conpin King is a mini-boss (shown around level 10 in the encounter, scaled to test your kit). Fight through his health bar; you'll get a hit-counter combo display as you burn him down. Defeating him drops [Source of Power] and other loot, and completing the quest lets you turn it back in to Heimdall.

Heimdall reacts to your "Source of Power" turn-in as proof you're ready for your next step of advancement.

7. Opening Your Common Pioh Box

Back at the Asgard plaza, the game prompts:

"Open Your Common Pioh Box."

This gives you your first actual Pioh companion item. To equip it:

1. Open your Pet Inventory (this is where Pioh items live).

2. Open the Pioh Arrangement panel (initially shows as "Locked" until you have a valid Pioh to slot in).

3. Drag your Pioh into your Pioh Slot.

Once slotted, your Pioh becomes an active companion that fights alongside you in the field — in the footage, this pays off with the "First Bond" achievement and a small hedgehog-type Pioh (nicknamed "Coward Hoppin" in this run) following the player into combat.
